Robl’s MMA contest

Tuesday, 9 July 2013

American professional player Andrew Robl has announced that he will be swapping the poker table for the cage later this year in a mixed martial arts (MMA) competition against JC Alvarado.

After batting around the idea a few months ago, the fight is now set to take place in November with both players putting up significant amounts of their own money in side bets. While Alvarado has $20,000 at risk, Robl will be wagering $34,000 of his own money that he can win the fight.

The upcoming contest is due to feature a trio of five-minute rounds under Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rules and so far Robl has been honing his skills at One Kick's Gym in Las Vegas.

Planning to knock out Alvarado, Robl recently gave fans a glimpse into his training courtesy of a short video that can be viewed here.
