Roberto Romanello wins WPT Bratislava

Monday, 4 April 2011

It's been quite a few months for Roberto Romanello. After a few near misses the Welshman got the perfect Christmas present by winning his maiden EPT title in Prague in December and has followed it up with a first World Poker Tour victory.

Romanello went into the final day in Slovakia as the chip leader and kept up the pressure throughout to set up a heads up clash with Colombia's Mayu Roca. After two hours of two handed play the vast majority of the chips went into the middle for a classic race with Romanello holding the pair against Roca's Ace King.

The Welshman, alongside railing Brits Andrew Feldman and James Akenhead, was willing a blank board and that was just what appeared, leaving the former chip shop worker two thirds of the way towards a triple crown, not to mention wealthier by over €140,000.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Roberto Romanello €140,685
2 Mayu Roca €71,000
3 Alexander Jager €42,000
4 Frank Dollinger €33,000
5 Jesper Hoog €26,000
6 Chris Williamson €21,000
7 Bodo Sbrzesny €17,000
8 Marek Tatar €14,000
