Richard Ashby wins Aussie Millions 8 Game-Mixed Event

Thursday, 20 January 2011

Richard Ashby is no stranger to success Down Under. The BlackBeltPoker pro won his first Aussie Millions title in a side event in 2005 but despite a number of deep runs, including a final table appearances in the Main Event and the $10.5k HORSE, he hadn't returned to the Aussie Millions winner's enclosure since. Ashby put that right overnight though after winning the Aussie Millions 8 Game-Mixed title.

The man voted Best All Round Player at last year's British Poker Awards outlasted a 68-runner field that included the likes of Mel Judah, James Obst and Maria Ho to take a first prize of AU$23,800 (around £15,000). Ashby, who went into the final table as the short stack, eventually sealed the win against Bruno Portaro flopping top pair against the Aussie's middle pair.

Ashby really is the mixed game ace adding this Aussie Millions title to a CV that already includes a runner up finish in the 2010 $10k WSOP HORSE event.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Richard Ashby AU$23,800
2 Bruno Portaro AU$16,320
3 Casey Kastle AU$10,880
4 Daniel Ospina AU$6,800
5 Oliver Gill AU$4,760
6 Dane Coltman AU$3,400
7 Paul Ravesi AU$2,040
