Chris Moneymaker, the World Poker Tour, stories of multi-million pound pots and prizes – all have helped to increase the popularity of poker in the last five years, but it might be argued that Late Night Poker is the show that really got the poker boom started. Now the program is coming back to our television screens here in the UK.
Taking part in the new season of the Party Poker sponsored series are a bunch of faces familiar from the show’s previous incarnations. Players already confirmed include Dave 'The Devilfish' Ulliott, the Hendon Mob, Padraig Parkinson, Donnacha O'Dea, Marcel Luske and Simon Trumper. Joining them will be some of the newest superstars in the game, including 2006 WSOP Main event Champion Jamie Gold, and 2007 WSOP Europe winner Annette Oberstrad. Alongside them will be Roland De Wolfe, Robert Williamson III, Jen Mason and Jon Kalmar. The blend of old school Late Night Poker and new school celebrities will make this compelling viewing.
A PartyPoker spokesman said: 'We're happy so many of the old faces are back and are pleased with the line-up. There is also going to be a celebrity special table filmed the same day as the final – details of which will be released in the near future.'
Back in 1999 Late Night Poker was the first televised show to feature cameras under the table, allowing the viewers to see the hole cards. This year’s coverage will be presented by Vicky Coren, whilst the tournament director will be Thomas Kremser.
