Relative unknown Dinh Le walked away as champion of the latest Pokerstars.com Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) this weekend after outplaying 351 other hopefuls at the Grand Waldo Hotel in Macau.
The third event of the Tour, the Macau outing followed events in Korea and The Philippines and was the first major poker tournament to be held in China. It featured top global players such as Joe Hachem, Liz Lieu, Isabelle Mercier, John Juanda, Jeffrey Lisandro and Bertrand Grospellier all eager to win the $225,640 main prize.
However, Le outlasted runner-up Ivan Tan after eight and half hours and ten hands of heads-up play at the final table to take the title. Tan took home a cheque for $129,536 for his second place finish after surviving against experienced professionals such as Guillaume Patry and Simon Randall.
The Macau event ends this week with a $15,000 buy-in high-roller contest in which several big name poker professionals have entered.
