In America, a National Hockey League (NHL) team in the state of Michigan is to host a Texas hold ‘em tournament next month giving fans the chance to play poker against some of the sport’s biggest stars.
The Detroit Red Wings ice hockey team is to hold its first Hockeytown Hold 'Em Tournament on November 5 at the city’s Motor City Casino with all proceeds going to charity.
For a $500 donation to The Detroit Red Wings Foundation, fans will get to play poker against NHL stars such as Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg with the top prize being a trip for two to any away game aboard the team’s private jet, Red Bird II.
Second prize will be an executive suite for a home game with third prize consisting of four tickets to a home game followed by a meet-and-greet with select players.
The event is to kick off with a cocktail reception at Iridescence, Motor City Casino's four-diamond restaurant, before heating up later as players bid on which members of The Wings’ team they would like to partner up alongside.
The Detroit Red Wings Foundation’s goal is to satisfy the unique needs of the local community through the sport of hockey and is a subsidiary of team owner Mike Ilitch’s Charities for Children, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children in the areas of education, recreation and health.
