Tuesday, 8 November 2011

PokerStars certainly knows how to throw a birthday party. Not content with a $10m guaranteed Sunday Million the world's biggest poker site now has plans to hold the world's biggest online tournament as part of its tenth birthday bash.

The Guinness World Record attempt is scheduled for 5.30pm UK time on Sunday 4 December with the buy in set at just $1 and a guaranteed prize pool if $250,000. The winner will walk away with a cool $50,000, not bad for an investment of less than a quid. $10 bounty bonuses are also on offer to players who manage to knock out a PokerStars Pro.

One of those Sign up here pros is Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier who had this to say about the record breaking attempt. “I’m looking forward to doing it again on December 4. It will be great to see so many players come together to make history once again at the world’s largest poker site.”

ElkY is no stranger to the record books himself, holding the Guinness World Record for Most Online Poker Tables Played in One Hour (62, with a profit of $23.60).

The current record for the biggest ever online tournament stands at149,196 players and was set in 2009 in another PokerStars tournament. Germany's oskar69 scooped the $50,000 first prize.
