The Rank Group looks set to become the largest casino operator in Britain after conditionally agreeing to acquire Gala Casinos from Gala Coral Group Limited.
The £205m deal would include 23 Gala casinos in Britain and would take Rank's list of UK properties up to 58, 10 more than closest rivals Genting. The deal is expected to be completed in September, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval, with a number of Gala sites set to be rebranded as G Casinos.“By rolling out the G Casino‘ format into the Gala estate and expanding the Grosvenor Casino brand into 11 new cities, we will accelerate the growing awareness of the brand and support the development of a multi-channel gaming business,” said Rank chairman and chief executive Ian Burke.Gala's Gibraltar and Dundee casinos, together with its non-operating licence for the City of Westminster (London), are not included in the acquisition.
