Randy Lew wins APPT Macau Main Event

Monday, 28 November 2011

Randy 'Nanonoko' Lew is famed for playing a ridiculous number of online tables simultaneously. The 26-year-old has shown that the slower pace of play at a single, live table suits him just as well after taking a record breaking APPT Macau Main Event.

Lew, who started the day as the short stack, outlasted a final table that included David Steicke, Daniel Nordstrom, Zuo Wang and Jeffrey Rossiter before beating Jimmy Pan heads up. Lew needed a little bit of luck to seal his maiden live event, coming from behind with with Q10 to beat Pan's KQ after hitting a dream Q-10-8 flop.

"I got queens in against aces, which was kind of a cooler, but after that I was just able to grind my stack really well," said Lew afterwards. "My heads-up opponent was a very competent player. I felt very confident though, in heads-up, because I play a lot of heads-up online against good players."

And how does live success compare to crushing the internet games? "Winning online, it feels kind of virtual. It’s kind of like my training ground for these live tournaments. Live tournaments are kind of like your record, and now I have something to put in my record, and that feels so good."
