Raymond Rahme has put Africa on the poker map after finishing third at last week’s World Series Of Poker (WSOP) event in Las Vegas.
The South African player became the first person from Africa to appear at the final table of the Main Event and took home over three million dollars in prize money.
The 62-year-old retired owner and operator of a bed and breakfast beat 6,350 other players from around the globe in the No Limit Texas Hold’em World Championship before being eliminated by eventual winner Jerry Yang.
Although he has played stud poker for three decades, Rahme said that he has only been playing Hold’em around two years. He secured his place at the WSOP as a member of the All Africa Poker Team after placing in the top five at the Piggs Peak Swaziland’s All Africa Poker Finalist last month.
