PokerStars to go Social

PokerStars to go Social

Wednesday, 6 February 2013

The battle of the virtual poker world’s two biggest entities looks set to reach a climax in the next few weeks as PokerStars has just beta released its new social gaming site.

Aiming to take a slice of the Facebook poker market from Zynga Poker, PokerStars new room will feature all the site’s familiar features, along with some added “gamification”.

Experience points, leaderboards, challenges and the ability to purchase gold coins, will make the free-to-play game a distinctly social feel.

The latest move by PokerStars comes as Zynga Poker prepares to take its first steps into the world of real money poker.

Setting up home on bwin.party’s network, the social gaming site will be looking to harness its database of millions to become a strong force in the market.

Commenting on the recent announcement, PokerStars’ Head of Corporate Communication, Eric Hollreiser, said, “We’re launching it in beta because we want to test it out and ensure it is up to PokerStars’ high-standard. There’s still a lot of work to be done, and while the beta testing is just beginning, we will allow new participants to join as and when we are able to do so.”
