PokerStars shatters tournament world record

Tuesday, 29 December 2009

PokerStars have broken their own world record for the most players in a single poker tournament. Previously, 65,000 players entered the event but this time over double the amount turned out for a massive tournament with a huge overlay.

The tournament guaranteed $300,000 and 149,196 people stumped up the $1 entrance fee. To put that in perspective – it’s over 20 times the field that Joe Cada defeated to become the youngest WSOP Main Event champion. The field for this tournament would fill Wembley stadium over one and a half times.

The massive overlay meant a first-place prize of $50,000 and with no deal struck, oskar69 defeated the largest field in tournament poker history to increase his bankroll significantly.

The full final table placings and payouts were as follows:

1. oskar69 $50,000.00
2. Bommel222 $30,000.00
3. TLWPB $20,000.00
4. willis59 $10,000.00
5. kruglay $8,000.00
6. madmick62 $6,500.00
7. DS1982 $5,250.00
8. denmil53 $4,000.00
9. bigsnapper7 $3,000.00
