PokerStars raises $1.5m for Haiti earthquake

Wednesday, 3 February 2010

The Haitian earthquake that destroyed over a quarter of a million homes and left almost 200,000 dead occurred while PokerStars’s players and pros were living it up in the Bahamas, playing the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

However, online poker is a powerful and rich industry – PokerStars went to action immediately, with players being able to donate to the Haiti relief fund in a number of ways. PokerStars matched each dollar donated by their players.

“When all was said and done, PokerStars players had donated $746,390.26, a figure that PokerStars will match for a total donation of $1,492,780.52 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies,” the announcement read on the PokerStars blog.

The blog made particular note of the efforts of Bryan Pellegrino and Robert Ford, who organised charity tournaments on the 2+2 Heads-Up NL forums, raising $6,330 for the fund.
