PokerStars launches new North American Tour

Thursday, 7 January 2010

It’s not just the UK and Ireland that can look forward to a series of PokerStars sponsored live events this year. The online giant has made a move into the live tournament arena in the US by creating the North American Poker Tour (NAPT).

Billed as “the first major poker tour in North America created by poker players for poker players” the NAPT is promising “accessible buy-ins … massive prize pools and thousands of players from around the world all competing for millions of dollars”.

The action gets under way at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure with the NAPT Venetian in Las Vegas scheduled from 20th to 24th February followed by the NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event in Uncasville, Connecticut, from 7th to 11th April. Two more events are pencilled in but the venues are as yet unconfirmed. The Main Events will be $5,000 buy in affairs with a series of side tournaments to accompany each.

Daniel Negreanu, who is one of a host of PokerStars pros set to play on the tour said, “I'm really looking forward to the launch of the NAPT. PokerStars.net has done an excellent job sponsoring meaningful tournaments around the world with the EPT, LAPT, APPT, and various other local tours – and it’s exciting to see them coming to my home town of Las Vegas! With the addition of the NAPT, I'll have a chance to play some tournaments on home soil, and I'm very excited about that.”

You can freeroll your way to a prize package that includes the $5,000 buy in plus accommodation and expenses at PokerStars.
