The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour has smashed another record with 434 players attending this year’s EPT French Open in Deauville.
The staggering number of players is some 200 players more than last year’s turn-out – making it the largest attendance ever for a European poker tournament and creating a prize pool of nearly €1.5 million.
Amongst the 209 players who started out were dozens of world-famous players as well as 42 PokerStars.com players who qualified for the event online.
Famous names playing at the event include 2001 World Champion Carlos Mortensen, Tiffany Williamson (top-placed female in the 2005 WSOP), and Pascal Perrault (Vienna EPT winner, Season 1).
The event also attracted record numbers of media, with more than 45 TV, press and online media attending the first day.
The next stop on the European Poker Tour is the €10,000 EPT Grand Final at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort in Monaco from March 7 -11, 2006. More than 80 PokerStars players qualified online for last year's Grand Final helping to create a €2.11 million pot, the biggest prize pool ever seen in a poker tournament in Europe.
