The second day of play at the EPT San Remo saw 207 return to play, but only 32 of them remained at the close of the session. Some of the big names were still in contention, including Liz Lieu, Daniel Negreanu, Thor Hansen and Max 'The Italian Pirate' Pescatori. None of them remained by the end though, and it was left to Todd Brunson, Markus Golser and Dario Minieri to represent the pros.
One of the best known English players ended up hitting the rail in painful circumstances. When Roland De Wolfe managed to persuade his opponent their pocket jacks were good on a ten-high board, he actually had them drawing to two outs when he tabled queens. One of the jacks literally turned up though, sending De Wolfe reeling out of the tournament. Other notable eliminations on Day 2 included Juha Helppi, Billy 'The Croc' Argyros and Antonio Esfandiari.
Dario Minieri was up to his normal tricks in San Remo, moving his chips around like a whirling dervish who’d drunk too much Red Bull. The aggressive style which accumulated him so many chips came back to haunt him a little after he ran AJ into AK and then lost a race with AK against TT, both denting his stack. The Italian remained unperturbed, and he ended up taking out Anthony Spinella in one of the last hands of Day 2 to end up in third position overnight. The rest of the top ten look like this:
Jason Mercier – 684,000
Eric Koskas – 596,000
Dario Minieri – 595,000
Jonas Klausen – 529,000
William Thorson – 320,000
Anthony Lellouche – 282,000
Mike Sowers – 275,000
Dag Palovic – 275,000
Jan Heitmann – 264,000
Johannes Strassmann – 255,000
