A total of 132 players joined the 91 from the first Day One at the PokerStars.com EPT Dublin event, making a combined field of 223. Amongst the field were some top pros, including Roland De Wolfe, Ram Vaswani, Surinder Sunar, Julian Thew and Annette Obrestad, as well as local favourites Roy ‘The Boy’ Brindley and Liam Flood.
The day started with a bang for Vaswani after he pulled a move on the turn with a gutshot straight draw for his whole stack, only to be looked up by an overpair. No magic for Ram, and he was out early. It was also an early bath for defending champion Roland De Wolfe when his top two pair were chased down by an open-ended straight flush draw. The dealer was obviously in no mood for suspense after all the money went in on a flop of Jd 9d x, De Wolfe’s opponent showed Qd Td, and the King of diamonds came off on the turn to leave De Wolfe drawing dead.
WSOPE Champ Annette Obrestad managed a late double up in a big-blind special. Holding 6-7 and checking her option, the flop came J 7 6 and the young Norwegian was lucky enough to be paid by a pair of Aces who tried to sneak in undetected. Annette promptly got the chips in the middle and no suck out came for the nineteen year old.
The remaining players combine for Day Two, with Flood, Sunar, Dave Colclough and Andy Black all in good shape.
