PokerStars celebrates Frank’s HR 2267, argues legality
Friday, 30 July 2010

PokerStars have jumped on the online poker legality bandwagon, sending out a press release to all players summing up the 41-22 passed HR 2267 bill and confirming that from their perspective PokerStars has broken no laws.

The bill makes a case for their operations in the US since the 2006 UIGEA, stating that “as reflected in legal opinions provided to PokerStars, its activities in the US are and at all times have been lawful.

“The bill, sponsored by Committee Chairman Barney Frank, offers a long overdue common sense approach to internet gaming regulation in the United States. PokerStars wholeheartedly supports the efforts of Chairman Frank and the bill’s proponents," the press release states and continues, "This bill represents the most significant US legislative accomplishment in the history of the internet gaming industry.”

Despite opposition from conservative politicians such as Spencer Bachus, the bill for reform of the UIGEA passed with almost a two-to-one vote and has taken the first steps towards the final table – Obama’s desk.
