PokerStars WCOOP final events underway

PokerStars WCOOP final events underway

Monday, 26 September 2011

Last night marked the biggest Sunday on the PokerStars calendar with the final three events of the WCOOP taking place alongside the typical smaller stakes Sunday action. A $215 NL event guaranteed $1.25m and saw 9,664 players create a nearly $2m prize pool.

As we write that event is still underway with just 72 players left, each guaranteed $2,706 but all looking to the first prize of $284,320. The 8-Game $10,300 High Roller saw 70 entrants bust the $500,000 guarantee with PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov defeating Russian player Ostrov heads-up at a final table that also included Daniel “KidPoker” Negreanu and three-time WCOOP bracelet-winner Anders “Donald” Berg.

The Main Event was the one everyone was looking at, though, and did not disappoint. A guarantee of $5m was easily burst as 1,627 players put up $5,200 each to create a prize pool of more than $8m with two players receiving seven figures; the winner walks away with the coveted WCOOP bracelet as well as $1,464,300.

NUTZBOT of Russia leads the field – with an average stack of 184,886 he has racked up almost 650,000. Other big names left in the hunt with 176 players left include Frederik “H@££INGGOL” Halling (17th), Terrence “Unassigned” Chan (20th), Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese (27th) and Eugene Katchalov (37th).

Also in the running, albeit with lower chip counts, are Johnny Lodden, newest PokerStars Pro “mement_mori” and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, looking for his record-equalling third WCOOP bracelet.
