Tuesday, 7 June 2011

This past Sunday marked the first occasion of the new PokerStars Sunday Majors – same tournaments, earlier start times. To celebrate the rescheduling, PokerStars announced double guarantees for the tournaments, putting traffic back to pre-Black Friday levels.

The $109 Sunday Kick-off guaranteed $150k and received over 2,500 players; the Sunday Warm-Up and Sunday Storm made their $1m and $400k guarantees with room to spare and most excitingly, the Sunday Million easily broke the $2m guarantee.

The Sunday Warm-Up and the Sunday Million returned to pre-Black Friday guarantees with $1m and $2m guaranteed in prizes for each respective tournament. By Monday morning, kojocki had beaten 5,455 others to claim a $155k first prize in the Sunday Warm-Up and Diogene had beaten over 10,000 players to a $285k Sunday Million title.

It was Greek played apobj who triumphed in the Sunday Storm $11 event with a $400k guarantee, beating a field of more than 44,000 to the title and a $30k first prize after a heads-up deal. The UK’s Azazel1980 was runner-up in the Sunday Million and took home over $200,000.
