Friday, 18 July 2014

Ever fancied being mentored by a top pro? PokerStars is offering players just that opportunity courtesy of its new WCOOP contest.

The lucky winners will be coached by one of Andre Akkari, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Eugene Katchalov and Vanessa Selbst, who have four WCOOP titles to their name. They will also gain entry into three World Championship events, including the $5,200 Main Event. The four finalists will also battle it out for PokerStars Caribbean Adventure package.

The first step to becoming a protege is to finish in the top two on one of the four daily $5.50 tournaments that will run between 20 July and 3 August.

13.00 ET – Eugene Protégé Qualifier
14.00 ET – ElkY Protégé Qualifier
17.00 ET – Vanessa Protégé Qualifier
18.00 ET – Andre Protégé Qualifier

In addition to the usual prize pool, the tournament winner and runner up will be given the opportunity to make a one-minute video, directed to the Team Pro mentor, explaining why they should be given the chance to become a protégé.

The quartet of pros will then shortlist their two favourites and the eight videos will be uploaded to Facebook and YouTube with the poker loving public voting to decide who will become the proteges.

“This is going to be a fun and incredible experience for four players,” said recent WSOP bracelet winner Vanessa Selbst. “They’ll get some great training with in-depth strategy discussion from four Team PokerStars Pros that should really help their games going into the World Championship events.”
