PokerStars Makes a Mark on the US Market

PokerStars might not yet have secured a poker platform in the US, but a recent legal patent could throw a spanner into the works of many operators currently active in various states.

After applying to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for exclusive rights to its fast-fold poker variant, Zoom, PokerStars was granted a patent which will become active on May 20th.

Filed under the title "Computer gaming device and method for computer gaming", the licence will cover Zoom Poker and, potentially, Full Tilt's Rush Poker if the Rational Group is allowed to licence the intellectual property across multiple sites.

Once this patent comes into force it could spell trouble for other operators such as PartyPoker who currently offer a similar selection of games both internationally and in the US.

For this reason it's expected a number of US operators will challenge the decision and look to secure their own rights to offer a form of fast-fold poker both now and in the future across the US.
