PokerStars have announced a new sit-and-go leader board concept, launching its 'Battle of the Planets' promotion that they believe will pay over $3,000,000 per year to their players.
The idea is simple enough; eight divisions each named after one of the planets in order of increasing size. The Mercury level covers SnGs with buy-ins ranging from $1 to $2.99 while the biggest buy-in levels ($300 and upwards) would be in the Jupiter division.
Within each division there are split winners, with ‘low orbit’ and ‘high orbit’ brackets. A qualifying group of tournaments in a low orbit bracket would consist of 20 tournaments, with each successive block of twenty counting as a separate block for qualifying purposes. The high bracket orbits are calculated on 100 sit-and-go blocks, meaning players having to participate at a higher level to qualify.
The qualifying sit-and-gos contain less than 40 players and points are roughly awarded for the money placing. The specific buy-in levels and the total payouts for each level are as follows:
Mercury ($1-$2.99)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $1,500
Prize pool for High Orbit $1,500
Mars ($3-$4.99)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $2,000
Prize pool for High Orbit $2,000
Venus ($5-$9.99)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $2,500
Prize pool for High Orbit $2,500
Earth ($10-$19.99)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $3,000
Prize pool for High Orbit $3,000
Neptune ($20-$49.99)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $3,500
Prize pool for High Orbit $3,500
Uranus ($50-$99.99)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $4,000
Prize pool for High Orbit $4,000
Saturn ($100-$299.99)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $4,500
Prize pool for High Orbit $4,500
Jupiter ($300+)
Prize pool for Low Orbit $5,000
Prize pool for High Orbit $5,000
On top of that, the top ten players from each division each week will be given a seat to an end-of-month triple shootout freeroll with $50,000 prize money.
