PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 event begins today

Thursday, 6 January 2011

Outside of the World Series of Poker, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure has been considered the most anticipated tournament of the poker calendar since its inception in 2004. This year a record field is predicted for the Main Event but the main attraction begins today with the $100,000 Super High Roller tournament.

Already there are 26 players confirmed as playing the event. Daniel Negreanu, who flew out to the Bahamas on the same flight as Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly, Antonio Esfandiari, Jonathan Duhamel and Sorel Mizzi, will be playing the event with his plane buddies. Also competing in the super high stakes tournament will be Nick Schulman, third place finisher in the 2010 PCA Main Event; high stakes cash player Ashton Griffin, PokerStars Pro and tournament beast Jason Mercier; breakout live tournament star Tom Marchese; online legend James Obst; old school pro Hoyt Corkins and Bryn Kenney.

Not only that, but scourge of the PCA and winner of both the Main Event and High Roller in previous years, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, will be hoping to start 2011 with a bang after a lacklustre 2010. Lex Veldhuis, Humberto Brenes, Bill Chen, Dan Shak, Scott Seiver and Andrew Robl will also be in attendance making for a tough field and a stacked final table.

Unfortunately, the rivalry between PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker about televised events means that no Full Tilt Pros are as of yet confirmed for the PCA Super High Roller despite the fact that Isildur1 will be in the Bahamas – and could well be revealed to the world.

One last note – look out for EPT champion and young gun Mike “Timex” McDonald who is competing in the Super High Roller event after a semi-retirement that saw him still take second place to Jake Cody at the EPT, coming close to his record second EPT title.
