PokerStars Announces $9m Sunday Million Tournament

Tuesday, 17 February 2015

PokerStars' flagship weekend major, the , will celebrate its ninth anniversary in March and to mark the occasion the online operator is putting up a prizepool worth at least $9 million.

In typically flamboyant fashion, the birthday antics will not only consist of added prizes, but additional opportunities for players to take part in one of the richest events ever held on the site.

As ever, direct entry to the Sunday Million will be available for a relatively meagre $215 on March 8, but if players want to spend less of their bankroll in search of the guaranteed $1 million top prize then a slew of satellites will be available.

Costing as little as $1 or 50 FPPs, players can gradually step their way to promises to be one of the largest MTTs in PokerStars' history. Indeed, if everything goes to plan, PokerStars is hoping to attract more than 60,000 players which would set a new record for the largest Sunday Million prizepool in history.

Currently, the richest Sunday Millions to date took place in 2011 when 59,128 grinders took part in the event's fifth anniversary. That intake created a prizepool in excess of $11.8 million and by the time Luke 'Bdbeatslayer' Vrabel had cut a deal and collected every chip in play, he managed to log off with $670,000 and a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Qualifiers for the $9 million Sunday Million are currently underway and players are also being directed to two deadline satellites. The first will cost $11 to enter and offer 1,000 seats to the Main Event, while the second has a buy-in of $33 and 333 places in the anniversary event on offer.

$11 Deadline Satellite - 13:20 ET, Sunday, March 8
$33 Deadline Satellite - 13:45 ET, Sunday March 8
