PokerRoom.com Closes Doors After Ten-Year Run

Wednesday, 15 April 2009

Parent company bwin regretfully announced the closure of flagship site PokerRoom.com, a staple of bwin and the OnGame network.

PokerRoom shut down yesterday, with regular players there being encouraged to play at bwin.com instead. Special bonuses are being offered to the ousted players.

The site was among the most famous and longest-running online, founded by Oskar Hörnell and Claes Lidell in 1999. At its peak it was one of the most successful online poker site.

In 2003 when the “Moneymaker effect” took hold, the site expanded to offer Omaha and Stud variants. When the UIGEA passed in 2006 BetandWin (now bwin) aquired OnGame and expanded the site further.
