Poker in the Park V begins…

Wednesday, 31 August 2011

The wait is over, and we can hardly contain ourselves. We’ve hoisted up the last marquee, banged in the final peg and all that’s left is to wait for Friday, 3pm, when Poker in the Park V unfurls its mighty tentacles across London’s Hanover Square.

So, what can our festival-goers expect for the complete lack of money that they don‘t have to pay whatsoever? How about SNG’s running around the clock, free lectures and tuition from the likes of Sam Trickett, JP Kelly and Neil Channing? Tents spreading heads up tournaments, as well as rummy, chess and backgammon tournaments all day long? How about the record for the biggest Mah-Jong tournament ever held in the UK?

The festival atmosphere will be enhanced by the addition of the PokerStars Main Stage and a fully licensed bar. The Swinging Little Big Band will be providing the music, while magicians and “card ninjas” wow the crowds with their card manipulation.

The main stage will also host to the second annual British Poker Awards, compered by TV’s Lucy Porter, which will include a charity auction to raise money for Peace and Sport (www.peace-sport.org). Among the items to go under Lucy’s hammer will be Barcelona and Arsenal shirts signed by the teams.

And that’s just a taster. They say you have to pay for a poker education, but this weekend they’re giving it away for free!
