In case there were some who still doubted how good she really is, Internet poker prodigy and WSOPE winner Annette Obrestad narrowly missed out on her second major live tournament win this weekend at the Poker Stars EPT Dublin.
Obrestad was fancied by many to win the title after coming to the final table on Saturday as the chip leader. She got off to a flying start too, eliminating Casper Hansen, Michael Durrer, Eidsvig Outski, and Reijo Manninen single-handedly.
Once down to heads-up, only Reuben Peters and his short stack stood in the way of the Norwegian’s live double. Peter had $700,000 in chips compared to Annette’s $2.6 million. The aggressive style of Obrestad normally serves her well, but she was burnt by it when she moved in with top pair against Peter’s two pair after about a dozen hands of heads-up play. With that double up, Peter was on the ascendancy, and after Obrestad insta-folded to a reraise all-in a few hands later, she found herself on the short stack.
The final hand saw Reuben bet big with AT, and Obrestad re-raise with pocket sevens. The flop came an uncoordinated Tc 6h 3d, and after Obrestad bet the flop, she found herself in a tough spot when faced with the all-in bet. Eventually she made the call, and the board bricked out leaving the young Norwegian nursing a cheque for €297,800 for second place.
