The inaugural World Heads-Up Championship is to take place tomorrow, February 6, at the Crystal Casino in Los Angeles.
The unusual tournament structure will see 64 of poker’s top pros, reportedly to include Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem and Jennifer Harman, battle it out in “bracket” style heads-up battles.
Hosted by Live at the Bike, the action will in fact kick off today, February 5, when the players will be divided into four brackets before progressing with each subsequent win against a randomly drawn opponent.
The actual matches will begin on February 6, continuing to February 8 when the quarterfinals and championship matches will take place.
The tourney features a sizeable $10,000 buy-in and a $640,000 prize pool, with $215,000 for the winning player, as well as those all-important bragging rights.
Other celebrities and poker pros to attend will apparently include Antonio Esfandiari, Cyndy Violette, Erick Lindgren, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, Phil Ivey and Annie Duke.
