A new blog, Poker Patriots, has been launched with the aim of fighting the recent Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Despite a number of bodies and poker pros arguing that poker is a game of skill and should thus be an exception to the legislation, no such move has yet been made.
Working with various communities, organisations, and movements – from individual players to professional organisations – Poker Patriots aims to facilitate the sharing of information and expertise that strengthens the capacity to fight the prohibition and move toward a safe, regulated industry.
“We need to spread the word. Only by building partnerships with the entire community will we have the strength and capacity to fight the ban, regain our freedom, and achieve positive change,” said founders Hank Tamerlane and Doug Savoy.
The website features articles and analysis, suggestions for how players can take action against the legislation, a list of sites which continue to accept US players, videos and more.
“It is inherent in all American poker players to defend their rights and become Poker Patriots. We call on them to join the fight for the right to play,” Tamerlane and Savoy said.
