Poker Pair Launch Charity Drive

Poker Pair Launch Charity Drive

Friday, 11 December 2015

Four charities are set to receive a healthy pre-Christmas bonus thanks to professional poker players Dan Colman and Dan Smith.

The pair has joined forces to launch a special charity drive that will see them match any donations by up to $70,000.

After taking advice from Ruari Donnelly and Adriano Mannino from the Raising For Effective Giving (REG) charity, the pair has decided that the beneficiaries of this scheme are to include the Against Malaria Foundation, the Deworm The World initiative from Evidence Action, the Machine Intelligence Research Institute and The Massachusetts Bail Fund.

The Against Malaria Foundation fights the spread of malaria through the use of treated bed nets while the Deworm The World campaign treats people infected with parasitic diseases. For its part, the Machine Intelligence Research Institute investigates how to ensure smarter-than-human intelligence has a positive impact with The Massachusetts Bail Fund helping those accused of misdemeanours that are unable to afford bail.

Interested parties can find more information on these charities via Smith’s blog while anyone that subsequently donates is being asked to e-mail ReceiptsForCharity@Gmail.com in order to ensure their gift is matched.
