If you are looking for a poker tournament with guaranteed high stakes action and some serious competition, then the Intercontinental Poker Championship is it. Rather than allowing the big boys to buy-in and bulk up the prize pool, this is an invitation only event. What’s more competitors will be representing their country, so there is added pride at stake. Although bringing the trophy home will provide plenty of incentive, there is also the small matter of a $500,000 prize for the winner.
The event is due to take place over the coming weekend at the Palms Casino, with coverage being shown over the summer on CBS Sports. The first show will be aired on June 17, concluding on July 22. Those heading to the Palms include, Daniel Negreanu, representing Canada, Johnny Chan, representing China, Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot, representing England and Doyle Brunson, representing the USA. With this kind of line up, you can expect aggressive play to be the order of the day.
