One of the best things about horse-racing as far as we’re concerned is the names. Sometimes they’re given cute names, the type which gets backed by your mum because she ‘liked the name’.

One of the best things about horse-racing as far as we’re concerned is the names. Sometimes they’re given cute names, the type which gets backed by your mum because she ‘liked the name’. On other occasions, the names are frankly bizarre. Recently companies have wised up to the idea of naming a racehorse after your company, giving you a bit more exposure at a racetrack full of gamblers. It also helps when they win of course, which is just what two poker-named horses did this last week.
DevilfishPoker.com and Laddies Poker Two were some of the more commercially named horses on the list of winners from the racetrack recently. DevilfishPoker.com is a four-year old owned by the website, and won a Class 5 selling handicap hurdle at Catterick at 11/1. I wonder if Devilfish had a few quid on it?
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes got their bit of airtime when Laddies Poker Two, a three-year old horse won the Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Kempton on Monday at odds of 11/4 beating 11/8 favourite Ocean Legend into second.
