Poker Million heat 1 and 2 results

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

The search for the latest Full Tilt Poker Poker Million winner is under way with the opening heats taking place yesterday. The opening qualifier was full of familiar faces with American heavyweights Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and Greg Mueller squaring off against Brits Richard Asby, Ross Boatman, Stuart Rutter and Internet qualifier Thomas Maxwell.

In the end experience triumphed over youth with Howard Lederer overturning a three to one chip deficit to beat Richard Ashby heads up. Holding kings is usually a good way to boost your stack though and the Professor duly doubled up on the first hand of heads up play. Lederer managed to build up a handy chip advantage until he got caught with his fingers in the cookie jar, shoving with 8-2 off suit. Ashby, holding K4 made a brave call and levelled things up. Eventually, after 200 hands of heads up play Lederer sealed the win holding pocket Jacks against Chufty's K3s. A jack on the flop sealed the deal, sending the American into December's final with Ashby returning for the runners up qualifier later in the year.

The second heat was also an old school affair with Hendon Mobsters Barny Boatman and Ram Vaswani battling it out heads up for the win. In the end it was Boatman who emerged victorious.

The action resumes later today with Patrik Antonius, Annette Obrestad, recent WSOP bracelet winner Gavin Smith, Mike Matusow, Erik Seidel and Huck Seed all set to play.
