The next phase of Poker’s relentless march into the realms mainstream culture, it seems, is the gaming console, following Crave Entertainment’s announcement that ‘World Championship Poker’ is scheduled for release on most platforms at the end of this year.
Following the meteoric success of iGaming and reports that poker is currently being played by up to 10 million people worldwide, Crave think they could be onto a winner and that, the ability to win hard cash excluded, the new game will offer us that little bit extra than our Internet browsers. Championship Poker will allow players to enter different tournaments in different locations, ranging from a TV studio to a Mississipi Riverboat, and to create their own fully customisable characters with over eighty different options to mould a player’s look. Over eighteen different poker games are available including Texas Hold’em, Five Card Draw and Pineapple, as well as poker tutorials and hints and tips on strategy.
Scheduled for release in fourth quarter of 2004, World Championship Poker will be available for next generation console and handheld systems with a MSRP of $19.99
