Poker In The Park 2008 - It was Ace!
Monday, 18 August 2008

It came, it saw, it conquered. Poker in the Park 2008 took place in Central London this weekend, overtaking one half of London’s Leicester Square. As the weekend progressed, tournaments were played, lectures given by the best British players, and some of the most innovative companies in the industry demonstrated exactly why poker is such a huge phenomenon. The best bit about the whole thing - it was all free.

Poker in the Park sponsors PKR put together a schedule of tournaments at their Poker Dome, which proved to be a bit hit with the public. With trained dealers, trophies to be won and all of the action being beamed on to the Poker in the Park Jumbotron, the weekend saw many poker novices have their first taste of professional quality poker, with special guest commentator Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott overseeing the final table of the Bluff Europe Championship event.

While many played, others learnt as the Poker Academy saw top professionals share their secrets with poker enthusiasts. Bluff Europe cover stars Neil Channing, Nik Persaud and Dave Ulliott were joined by Mark Goodwin, Paul Jackson, Tom Sambrook and the lovely Liv Boeree as they covered everything the budding poker fanatic needs to improve their game.

The event was also a huge success for the companies who came descended to Leicester Square. While Cardoza Books and Squirrel Poker sold their wares to the masses, Poker Kings, Jackpot Joy and Aces Royal showed their latest online and mobile products, allowing players to enjoy their poker on the move or in the comfort of their own home. One of the most exciting visitors to Poker in the Park was the Fox Poker Club, who have secured their license for London’s first fully-licensed poker venue in London – more great news for the English capital.

Bluff Europe Online Editor Dave Bland was at the event and was impressed with how the festival went. "Poker in the Park really seems to have captured the imagination of poker players in London. There were those who have obviously played a fair bit of poker, as well as complete novices who were more than happy to try their arm and hopefully be bitten by the poker bug. The event dwarfed the one last year, and at this rate we're going to need the whole of Leicester Square in 2009!"

Bluff Europe would like to thank all of those who attended the event, as well as all of the sponsors who made the day such a success:

PKR
Jackpot Joy
Poker Kings
Fox Poker Club
Cardoza Books
Squirrel Poker
Ace Poker Nights
Ibiza Angels
GamCare

We look forward to seeing you all in 2009!
