PocketFives and the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) have teamed up to encourage people to demonstrate against a proposed bill which would essentially eliminate the online gambling industry in the United States.
The vote on the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, which was proposed on May 25 2006, has not yet taken place, but in the meantime, PocketFives and the PPA are teaming up to sponsor “Write Your Congressmen Day” in an effort to prevent the legislation from passing.
“Write Your Congressmen Day” takes place on June 15 2006 encouraging players to visit the PocketFives website where they can e-mail their Congressmen to voice their disapproval of the online gambling prohibition legislation.
Cal Spears, president of PocketFives.com hopes that a large-scale objection will not go unnoticed. “The flood of e-mails into Congressional inboxes may force some of our elected officials to change their thinking on the bill to curb online poker in the United States,” he says.
The PPA will provide both the e-mail system and media outreach for the event and will emphasize the difference between online gambling, based on chance, and online poker as a game of skill.
