Player’s WSOP Scare

Player’s WSOP Scare

Monday, 17 June 2013

This year’s WSOP might have produced a number of bustouts and bracelets but, no matter what the outcome for some of the game’s best, every player has been fortunate enough to go home healthy.

However, over the weekend, a well-known figure in the community found themselves suffering a cruel twist of fate during a routine break. Kevin “Phwap” Boudreau, a close friend of Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Peter Jetten, had taken a trip to Subway during a scheduled break in the $3,000 Mi Max event, but after a few moments in the shop he was rushed to hospital with bleeding on the brain.

After being examined by doctors, Boudreau was put into an induced coma so blood could be drained from his brain.

The sudden health scare has left many members of the poker world in shock and since the incident on Saturday a wave of support has flooded in for Boudreau. Showing their affection in the best way they know how, players such as Matt Stour, Phil Galfond and Mike “Timex” McDonald have all tweeted their support.

As more information filtered back to his poker friends, Peter Jetten updated the community with the following tweet:
“An update on @KevinPhwap he had a very large blood clot in his brain. Will likely be in ICU for weeks, dr’s say it’s not looking good.”
