Piroddi Peaks in San Remo

Piroddi Peaks in San Remo

Thursday, 31 October 2013

PokerStars' IPT made its second visit to San Remo recently and, after welcoming a bumper field for its €700 Main Event, the title was eventually claimed by Federico Piroddi. Operating with an accumulator format, a total of 1,010 players took to the felt at the start of the tournament but by the time things came to a close it was Piroddi who stood alone.

Going into the final day with a stack that was large enough to match his expectations, Piroddi sat tight whilst a slew of players, including Michele Di Lauro, Ivan Gabrieliand Alfonso Amendola, fell by the wayside in the early offing.

Indeed, by the time Amendola hit the rail that left recent UKIPT London finalist Dario Sammartinoin Piroddi’s way. However, despite being the underdog (on account of Sammartino his two deep UKIPT runs at the start of October) Piroddi blended a strong performance with a slice of luck to secure the title when his Ah 3s out drew Sammartino’s Ad Jc.

That pot not only gave Piroddi his first IPT title but the largest win of his career, whilst Sammartino was left to lament about what could have been.
IPT €700 Main Event Final Result:

1. Federico Piroddi €125,000
2. Dario Sammartino €95,000
3. Alfonso Amendola €75,000
4. Vincenzo Ruggiero €43,000
5. Andrea Benelli €32,000
6. Ivan Gabrieli €22,500
7. Guido Presti €16,000
8. Michele Di Lauro €12,000

The IPT heads to Saint Vincent from 28 November until 2 December for its final stop of 2013. Qualifiers are up and running at PokerStars starting from just €5.45.
