A PhD student from New Jersey has ensured his student debts are a thing of the past by bagging $1.5 million in the Fourth Annual PokerStars.com Caribbean Adventure.
22-year old Ryan Daut took on 937 professionals and amateurs at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas to take his share of the whopping $7 million prize pool. The field boasted four World Series of Poker champions including Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer and Chris Moneymaker.
At the final table, Daut was a 5/1 chip underdog heading into the showdown with fellow qualifier and student Isaac Haxton from New York. Making an excellent comeback, Daut took two hours to overcome his opponent and take the title.
A shell-shocked Daut paid tribute to the other players for making it such an aggressive tournament and vowed to return next year to defend his title. However, he wasn’t quite as emphatic as to whether he would be continuing his studies.
