Piccioli Leads Final 18 in Canada

Wednesday, 8 May 2013

Christian Harder and Bryan Piccioli were amongst those taking one step closer to this year’s WPT Canadian Spring Championship title and $438,607 in Montreal yesterday.

As Robin Bergen hit the rail in 19th place, Day 2 inside the Playground Poker Club came to a close and leading the way when the dust had settled was Bryan Piccioli (3,441,000).

After successfully ousting Bergen in the final hand of the session with pocket sixes, Piccioli crossed the 3 million chip mark to end the day marginally ahead of Amir Babakhani (3,321,000).

In a day that saw the field cut from 44 to just 18, a number of notable pros were left with only the rail for comfort as they watched their chips disappear.

Indeed, despite coming into the tournament on the crest of a wave after taking down the bestbet Open in Florida, Mike Linster couldn’t parlay his form into another title. After getting all his chips in the middle with pocket tens against the Ah Qc of Brant David Kostandoff, Linster was a victim of an ace on the river as the board ran out Js 8h 3s 2d Ad to send him home in 32nd place with $11,734.

Today’s penultimate session will begin later and see the final 18 whittled down until a final table of six remain.
