As the 9 remaining members of this year’s World Series of Poker
Main Event prepare for the Final Table later today (12 noon PDT/8pm
BST), one player will be heading into day 1 full of confidence.
Main Event leader Philip Hilm has been sitting on a chip lead of
755,000 since the players entered the relative purgatory of
Monday’s rest day, having amassed 22,070,000 chips, and will be
looking to press home his slight advantage when play resumes
today.
Hilm is already a champion in his own right having captained
Poland’s victorious World Cup of Poker III team, which overcame
both Team USA and Canada to lift the 2006 title in the four person
final.
Hilm is half Polish and half Danish and is currently 29th on
Denmark’s All Time Money List having amassed over $150,000 since
2005, through cashes at EPT Grand Final (15th), EPT Scandinavian
Open (4th), and the 2005 World Series Short Handed No Limit Hold’em
(33rd).
However, the Main Event is set up for an exciting finale with
Tuan Lam and Jon Kalmar both breathing down Hilm’s neck with chip
stacks of over 20 million each.
