Phil Ivey wins Aussie Millions $250,000 Challenge

Monday, 30 January 2012

Phil Ivey has returned to the poker world, notably the live tournament scene. He has made his presence felt with a deep run in the Aussie Millions Main Event before this, his biggest career cash with a AU$2,000,000 victory in the $250,000 Challenge.

Ivey bested a 16-strong field of some of the world’s best, with the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Sorel Mizzi and Patrik Antonius at the final table. It was Negreanu who became a big bubble boy, leaving Gus Hansen and Patrik Antonius in the money with Ivey.

In the final hand, Ivey called Antonius’s shove with A-Q; Antonius could muster up only K-3o and when the queen hit on the turn, the tournament was all but over. The payouts were as follows:

1. Phil Ivey – AU$2,000,000
2. Patrik Antonius – AU$1,200,000
3. Gus Hansen – AU$800,000
