As mentioned last week, Phil Ivey has been involved in a lot of high-stakes online battles recently on his own tables at Full Tilt Poker. The last couple of days have been particularly good for one of poker’s fiercest competitors though, having notched up wins to the tune of $1 million in the last couple of days.
The start to the month wasn’t great for Ivey, having suffered some losses to some of the other super-high stakes players in heads-up matches on the site. This week has seen an turn in his fortunes though, which began with a $300k win from OMGClayAiken. After a rare technical glitch brought Full Tilt to a shuddering halt for a few moments, Ivey was right back at the tables, his next match against seda1 going well for the pro until a lucky river meant the match concluded with both players around even for the session.
The big action came in his session against ‘seda1’ the following day, and this time there was a six hour session between the two. Having bought in for around $250k, Ivey cashed out with an incredible $800k in front of him. Two hands in particular stand out, with seda1 overplaying Jh-7h on a Jack-high board and walking into Ivey’s pocket aces for a pot of well over $380k, coupled with an aggressively played four-high flush draw that didn’t get there which saw Ivey rake in a pot of $284k.
Many poker fans want to know the identity of seda1, who is still an unknown player to the online community. There have also been rumours that the action on the $500/$1000 tables has been cross-booked, meaning they are playing at higher stakes of purportedly $1000/$2000 and seda1’s loss was in fact to the tune of $1.2 million.
Key hands from theses sessions can be reviewed on the HighstakesDB website, and more high stakes action can be expected on the Full Tilt site later today.
