Phil Hellmuth wins WSOPE Main Event
Friday, 5 October 2012
The amazing renaissance of Phil Hellmuth continues. After a fallow few years the Poker Brat has enjoyed a string of great results at the WSOP and he's capped it off by winning the WSOPE Main Event.
Hellmuth claimed his 13th World Series bracelet after outlasting a final table that included Jason Mercier, Britain's Chris Brammer and former Main Event third place finisher Joseph Cheong. The €1,022,376 first prize takes Hellmuth's career earnings past the $17m mark and puts him in a commanding position in the Player of the Year race (Greg Merson can catch him if he wins the October Nine).
“People don’t expect me to use this word,” said a gracious Hellmuth, “but I’m humbled by this. This was the best poker I’ve ever played in my life, I know that for certain. I played as well as I could possibly play, and here I am.”
