Phil Hellmuth to Coach November Niner Jeff Shulman

Wednesday, 23 September 2009

Jeff Shulman has become the first of the 2009 WSOP Main Event final tablists to publicly announce that he has hired a coach - and it is none other than 11-time WSOP bracelet-winner Phil Hellmuth.

The Poker Brat and CardPlayer editor have a history both as friends and in the business world so the choice, for Shulman, was a logical one: “Phil just has such a way of thinking about winning that I knew he would be a great resource,” said Shulman. “We’re going to talk about final-table strategy, analyze the tapes, and work on my own play.”

Shulman is currently in 4th place with 19,580,000 chips. When he returns to the felt blinds will be 120k/240k, giving him room to play. With Hellmuth’s coaching and a four-day boot camp, he could have the edge he needs to overcome the far superior Phil in 7th place.

The list of final tablists and chip counts for the World Series of Poker Main Event is as follows:

Darvin Moon 58,930,000
Eric Buchman 34,800,000
Steven Begleiter 29,885,000
Jeff Shulman 19,580,000
Joseph Cada 13,215,000
Kevin Schaffel 12,390,000
Phil Ivey 9,765,000
Antoine Saout 9,500,000
James Akenhead 6,800,000
