Phil Hellmuth is being postured as an early favourite to take the title at the 2007 Irish Open event by the event’s sponsors, Irish bookie Paddy Power.
The ten times World Series of Poker bracelet winner and “poker brat” has been priced at 66-1 by Paddy Power for the €3,300 (+€200reg) Main Event, which takes place at Dublin's Burlington Hotel over the Easter weekend.
With a €2 million guaranteed prize pool and a televised final table, the 2007 Irish Open is expected to attract a truly talented field of poker greats. The event is Europe's longest established poker tournament and has a reputation as being Europe's friendliest poker festival, full of camaraderie and Irish “craic.”
Inhabitants of the Emerald Isle will be hoping for a repeat of 2006 which saw Dubliner Vincent Melinn defeat a record-breaking field of 339 on home turf, taking home a whopping €350,000.
Qualifying competitions are running daily at PaddyPowerPoker.com where entry can be won for as little as $1. Land based satellites will also be running across Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe in the months to come.
