Phil Hellmuth added another record to his list of achievements when he won his 11th World Series of Poker Bracelet. He is the first ever player to achieve this, though Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson are hot on his heels with ten each, and Hellmuth was careful to mention their names in the press conference after his big win. Getting ahead of the other two players was clearly important to Hellmuth, who said, “This was the one I really wanted.”
The Commissioner of the WSOP, Jeffrey Polack said, “Now all World Series of Poker bracelet holders must measure themselves against Phil Hellmuth.”
A special ceremony marked Hellmuth’s gargantuan achievement, and the bracelet itself was presented to him by Doyle Brunson and Johnnie Chan. Because of the number of events at the WSOP it is not impossible that one of them will manage to overtake him. Three players have won three events at a single WSOP, and Hellmuth is one of them.
Hellmuth chose to be a pro poker player early on and dropped out of university to do so nineteen years ago, and has become something of an icon for the sport. As well as having numerous sponsorship deals Hellmuth has won over $7,000,000 during his poker career.
