Peter McAdams wins GUKPT Manchester

Monday, 31 January 2011

Peter McAdams has won the opening event on this year's GUKPT calendar. The largely unknown player outlasted a high quality 207-runner field in Manchester that included the likes of WSOP bracelet winner Steve Jelinek, EPT Budapest winner Will Fry and UK tournament stalwarts Priyan de Mel, Jeff Kimber and Karl Mahrenholz.

McAdams went into the final table as one of the short stacks, holding just a tenth of leader Allan McLean's chips. A couple of double ups soon put him back in contention though and McAdams rode that momentum through to three-handed play with McLean and Dan Charlton. The long time chip leader McLean was next to go after his pocket 3s couldn't outlast McAdams' A9. With less than one big blind left he busted out a hand later.

Heads up play didn't last long either with all the chips going in the middle on a 9 high flop. Charlton revealed 9-8 for top pair but he was way behind McAdams who tabled pocket kings. The turn and river provided no help to Charlton making McAdams the first GUKPT winner of 2011. He picked up £58,100 for the win with Charlton settling for £39,350 for his runner up finish.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
1 Peter McAdams £58,100
2 Daniel Charlton £39,350
3 Allan Mclean £25,350
4 Dan Brown £15,000
5 Simon Cawley £11,400
6 George Geary £9,300
7 Osman Mustanoglu £7,250
8 Lawrence Gosney £5,700
9 Kuljinder Sidhu £4,150

McAdams has a chance to add to his bumper pay day with the first of this season's online Champion of Champions Freerolls scheduled for Wednesday. Joining McAdams in this £10,000 event will be the winners of all the side events in Manchester alongside the online GUKPT 10% tournament series champions.

The GUKPT proper returns in March with the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London the venue for the festival which runs from 9th to 20th. Qualifiers for the £1,500 Main Event are running at GCasino Poker.
