Peter Eastgate’s $147,500 bracelet buyer revealed

Wednesday, 19 January 2011

After Tony G lost out in buying Peter Eastgate’s 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event bracelet, the poker world wondered who eBay user “7***1” was. He or she had paid the $147,500 to claim their piece of poker history and donate the sum to UNICEF.

Turns out it’s a rich Scottish guy who sells fridges. Well, we say that but he’s actually the owner of City Refrigeration Holdings and his net worth is estimated at $238m. William Haughey, of Scotland, has donated over $50m to charity and gave the UNICEF donation as the main reason he bought the bracelet.

Haughey is a poker fan, though – he has $275,000 in career earnings from live tournaments including four WSOP cashes and a win at an EPT side event in Monte Carlos back in 2008 for €91,800.
